The free Wi-Fi trial on board AirAsia Bhd flights, running till end-October, is being capped at 1MB per user.
In a statement today, AirAsia said up to 60 guests on selected flights would be able to test and evaluate the on-board Wi-Fi service for free.
It said guests will be informed via in-flight announcements if the aircraft they’ve boarded is equipped with on-board Wi-Fi capability.
They will be able to access and try this service simply by logging into the connectivity portal with a digital token code that is automatically generated upon clicking the “Get Access’’ button on the portal.
Each token code will be valid for one device and the free user trial is on a first-come first-served basis.
“With a quota of 1MB each, guests will enjoy a special package which will allow them to chat via Line, WhatsApp and WeChat,” said AirAsia.
However, the on-board Wi-Fi service will not be available while the aircraft is taxiing, taking off or landing, or when flying below 10,000ft — to comply with aviation safety and security standards, AirAsia added that a range of Wi-Fi products — including instant messaging, emails as well as content streaming — would be made available gradually on all AirAsia flights with the AK flight code and will be introduced throughout the AirAsia group progressively.
