AirAsia, Siemens cancel events as respect for MH17 tragedy

KUALA LUMPUR, July 18:
Two corporate bodies have postponed events planned for today and Monday to express their respect for the victims in the Malaysia Airlines MH17 tragedy over Ukraine.

Siemens had scheduled a press event at 3pm today to showcase its technologies that will help Malaysia meet the 40% carbon dioxide reduction target by 2020.

In a statement, it said: “With the recent tragic news on the plight of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH17, as a mark of respect, Siemens Malaysia will be cancelling the press conference that was scheduled to be held today.

“We would like to convey our deepest sympathy and heartfelt condolences to those who have lost family and friends on board Malaysian Airlines flight MH17.”

AirAsia Bhd, which had planned to unveil on Monday morning “a brand new product, which is set to revolutionise low cost travel and bringing the ‘AirAsia Experience’ to a totally new level”, also called off its event.
