這起強震震倒了加德滿都一座19世紀建造的達拉哈拉塔(Dharara Tower)，警方封鎖周圍區域時，清理出多具屍體，已知仍有數十人受困其中。
根據美國地質調查所(USGS)的資料，尼泊爾今天的強震規模達7.9，深度為15公里。除了首都加德滿都災情嚴重外，也引發聖母峰(Mount Everest)山上雪崩，由於4月是攀爬聖母峰的旺季，恐怕有眾多登山客因此受困。
